A whirlwind finish to 2011

What a hectic and amazing finish to 2011 we have had. From a few challenging Melbourne private events, with one site using 3 of our stunning brand new White/Silver Freeform Tents joined together to create one beautiful party area at a beautiful Toorak residence ..... Then back in Sydney for a range of corporate and private festive events and of course the Annual Lord Mayor's Picnic, part of the wonderful Sydney New Years Eve celebrations.

Along with a beautiful wedding at Whale Beach and some impressive private parties, we where lucky enough to be part of a stunning wedding ceremony held at Athol Hall and Function centre at the spectacular Bradleys head in Mosman.

This completed a very busy 2011 at Bedouin, and we are happy to say that 2012 has started off just as busy. We are looking forward to a fantastic and exciting year ahead.

The Balmain Art and Craft Show is a fundraising event for Father John Therry School in Balmain. It provides valuable funds to enhance teaching and learning at the school.

Continuing our long standing relationship with this wonderful event this year we set up 6 Freeform Tents and our mini 4m x 4m Echidna Pod to create wet weather cover and shade in areas that were otherwise very difficult to cover.

Other amazing set ups over the last month have been in conjunction with our wet weather contingency service (available upon request to selected customers).

Using our White 8m x 9m Marquee along with Moroccan Themed Decor, this charity was in support of the ENIWE Childrens Fund

A Corporate Event utilising our 3m high Inflatable Seaweed with 3 Red Marquees joined together to give an impressive area in which to host large crowds.

The Australian Turf Club needed an area for the children?s activities. We created a 15m x 20m White/Silver Freeform Tent using 6m Red Joining Strips, and as you can see the tent looked awesome.

Using 4 of our fabulous White/Silver Freeform Tents we created a great concert area for the for the Breakfast at Bondi Beach Event

Snow and Country

It has been a busy few months for Bedouin and below are just a few of our events that we covered in August and September

Firstly we headed to Thredbo to the opening of the new Denman Hotel where our Inflatable Shell Stage was used to create a special igloo effect for the DJ during Aprés Ski drinks at the bar.

We have also recently added our NEW larer Inflatable 9m x 7m Shell Stage to our range. It adds to the range of inflatable structures we have to hire and is a intelligently designed to provide a broad range of options for adding company logos and branding.

From the snow, we headed down to the Hunter Valley to Patinack Farm, where under the stars they had their Stallion Parade.

The Bedouin look was created using various lanterns, hanging from the joining strip, or placed on the tables. Squat and Chaise Ottomans were set around the Wooden Coffee Tables, with Cushions and Saddle Bags scattered throughout the marquee, creating what can be termed as a spectacular Moroccan Themed Event.

Winter Festivals

Festivals continue throughout winter and we where lucky enough to be part of the hugely successful "Aroma Festival" on the Sydney Foreshore. The Aroma Festival is a celebration of fine coffee, decadent chocolate, tantalising tea and sensational spices from Europe, the Middle East and beyond upon the charming streets of The Rocks.

Adding to the middle eastern feel and standing out amongst the crowd was our 8m x 9m Red Tent, used in conjunction with a staging system. and boy did look fantastic.

Even though June has been pretty cold and wet, our clients are still enjoying themselves with birthdays, engagements and general get togethers. We have put up several Freeform Tents in order to keep the masses happy. After the excitement of the Royal Wedding

... what better time to think about your own special day. As we settle down to the cooler months, perhaps it's not really the time to suggest weddings. But it really is all in the preparation. And what better way then to start thinking ahead of those glorious spring and summer days and where to hold the big day. Naturally you can't go past the beautiful harbour views. What better place to host a wedding and add a touch of magic than the Sydney Harbour foreshore or, indeed, Cockle Bay and Darling Harbour. Just imagine a Bedouin tent set up for the day on your own island with views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Clark Island is open to the public for private functions and would present a stunning backdrop for your photos.

If the water is not your thing, Sydney provides ideal garden locations such as Arthur McElhone Reserve, Elizabeth Bay and Blackburn Gardens in Double Bay to name a few. With the beautiful Hunter Valley within reach of Sydney why not think of the ever popular wineries as a fabulous venue.

Australian Grand Prix, Vineyards and Weddings

Well it's been a busy and eventful month for Bedouin since our last newsletter.

Kick starting the month was the Australian Grand Prix, held yet again in Melbourne’s beautiful Albert Park. Vodafone were delighted to stand out from the crowd by using our vibrant Red 10m x 30m Freeform Tent as a pit stop area for their staff and the more illustrious team members of Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes. Luke Hannan of Wonder Events said "The Bedouin tent looked awesome at the Vodafone Vantage Point at F1".

We then headed for a slower pace of life, where we were able to provide some shade for Tyrrells Wines. Set in the beautiful and tranquil Hunter Valley Winery district, Bedouin set up a stunning White/Silver Freeform Tent which truly looked amazing amongst the backdrop of vines.

Naturally, this particular Freeform tent would be popular for weddings and just looks superb, not only at a Winery but in any garden or parkland.

Which brings us to one of the most beautiful of occasions - A wedding held in Sydney’s Upper North Shore organised by Stephanie Friedlander of Styled By Sting.

Once again, our popular White Freeform Tents were used. A tricky area was beautifully presented under cover by joining two 10m x 15m freeform tents in modular fashion. As you can see the final effect was truly amazing, and really did have that WOW factor.

Lord Mayor's Picnic - Sydney Botanical Gardens

This is the 6th year in a row that we've been privileged enough to be involved in the Sydney Botanical Gardens 'Annual Lord Mayor's Picnic'.

Bedouin provided an array of brightly coloured themed tents to house the performers, bands and activities which would entertain over 2000 disadvantaged children, their carers and parents for the day. Ensuring they enjoy a feast of activities & food before watching the spectacular 9pm harbour fireworks.

Freeform Tendas is a Brazilian company licensed by our partner Stretch Marquees and Stretch Structures. Specialising in event hire of freeform tents and stretch structures for the Brazilian market, they ended there first hugely successful year in operation by supplying tents for the Reveillon Shine NYE live gig featuring Chris Lake. Melbourne festival - truss structure

Melbourne Festival is one of Australia's flagship international arts festivals and one of the major multi-arts festivals of the world, in terms of quality of work, innovation of vision, and scale and breadth of program. This year was no exception and we are please that we could assist with one of our Bedouin Freeform Tents.

The white freeform tent was erected on a lighting truss structure giving protection from sun, wind and rain, and boy was it needed throughout the 2 week festival. The festival was great success, and we look forward to assisting again next year.

Covering the challenging sites

Music festival season is upon us...Parklife Melbourne utilised two of our RED Freeform Tents joined together over an access way to turn an an otherwise hard to utilise space into a vibey entrance and entertainment area.

The flexibility of our freeform tents was combined with our new winch-up truss kingpoles, which provide greater ease for installation and stability and safety to the high access area and made what would usually be a challenging installation a simple affair. The bands and music was equalled only by the fantastic weather on the day.

Racing colours

They're off and racing!!!.....not the horses but greyhound racing at The Meadows in Victoria. This time it was a Lime Green 10m x 15m Freeform Tent. With three of the sides pulled close to the ground this was a perfect cover from the elements whilst giving maximum area inside. The peaks on our tents always give that little bit extra for the WOW factor and is a talking point among many guests.

Giant Inflatable Spheres

SMFS and Bedouin Freeform Tents have produced a giant 15ft branded inflatable sphere for the A-Gas exhibition stand at the recently held ARBS Exhibition. BARK IN THE PARK

Calling all dog lovers! Bedouin Tents was very proud to once again be a part of the Purina Bark in the Park. This year the event was held in Melbourne at Alma Park on Saturday 18^th April and then in Sydney at Prince Alfred Park on Saturday 2^nd May. The day was filled with pooch pampering, dog wash & spa, food sampling and other activities. Bedouin Tents provided our fabulous Freeform tents for both the Dog Spa & food sampling areas and arranged instant marquees for the people food vendors. Both events were a huge success and we’re looking forward to being involved again next year.

Bedouinflex passes European DIN4102 fire standards - Tuesday, 21 April 2009

Bedouin Freeform Tents revolutionary Bedouinflex waterproof stretch fabric has passed the stringent European and German fire standard tests DIN4102 with the B2 classification.

The tests were administered by Centexbel laboratories in Brussels and are based on strict European and German standards DIN4102, which is the most stringent European standard for the building industry, marquees and outdoor coverings.

The tests for B2 classification comprise two test methods administered to test the fire characteristics of the Bedounflex stretch fabric. The test specimen is initially put on a specimen holder that is hung in a test cabinet. A burner flame is applied to it for 15s and the time to reach a marked point is measured. In the second stage the burning droplets are observed by means of a paper placed under the specimen. The fabric supplied by Bedouin Freeform Tents was exposed to a flame for a period of 15 seconds, at a 45° angle, after which the flame was defused. The spread of burn is measured and timed to meet the 150mm. For all the Bedouinflex spread of the burn was only an average of 20mm in breadth and length during that testing time. The most important result of this test was that there was no flaming debris where observed during or after the test. Flaming debris can spread a fire, and dramatically increase the risk to life and property, so to have a fabric and a tent that will not spread a fire is absolutely essential.

The Freeform Tents and clear span stretch marquees manufactured by Bedouin Freeform Tents in Australia have gone through an incredibly rigorous research and development process for years now to formulate a fire-safe fabric in accordance with Australian, European and North American fire standards.

Well it’s now been a year since we last updated this exciting feature. Where did the time go?

We have undergone quite a few changes in our little company but one thing still remains the same, our dedication to provide outstanding products and services for each and every event, big, small, indoor, outdoor, public or private.

Exciting new expansion:

BRISBANE & GOLD COAST OFFICE IS NOW OPEN!

If you’re having an event in the sunshine state, Alex Hughes will be able to transform your space into a magical Bedouin Paradise. While we’re primarily servicing the Gold Coast & Brisbane areas, the new QLD office allows us to truly service any client up and down the East Coast.

MELBOURNE:

Nat Flint, Melbourne Branch Manager has now settled in to the brand new, permanent location in Melbourne’s northern suburb of Bundoora at the prestigious University Hill Complex. The branch is continuing to grow from strength to strength and with our associations with industry groups such as MEA, as well as developing great relationships with many of Melbourne’s key event planners, venue operators and even other event hire companies, Nat’s network in Melbourne is growing by the day. Since our last blog, Nat has also given birth to her second child, Charlie in May 2008.

SYDNEY:

Laura Murphy, Sydney Branch Manager took over from Rochana Perri in July 2008. Laura has many years of experience working in a variety of hospitality positions, including Functions Manager at a prestigious venue on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Laura is a wonderful asset to Bedouin Tents and we’re lucky to have her on board.

Stuart Johnstone and his wife Penny also expanded the Bedouin clan a little more last August when they welcomed a new baby girl, their first baby into their lives. Little Danielle will no doubt be putting up tents just as soon as she can walk.

So now that you’re up to date with our staff, we should tell you about some of the exciting events we’ve had the privilege of working on.

New Colour:

Our fantastic colour range now includes LIME GREEN. This was a much anticipated addition to our existing colour range and we can now offer our full range of Freeform Tents & Echidna Pods in 8 different colours: Lime Green, Blue, Red, Yellow, Sand, Burnt Orange, Black & White (light grey).

Our new Lime Green tents have been used as promotional marquees for company’s such as V Energy drinks at the Future Music Festival + Oxfam at the finish line of the Melbourne Trailwalkers event.

Echidna Pods:

You will have seen in our first blog that our long awaited Echidna Pod range of marquees were about to be released. The response to these innovative & eye catching structures has been phenomenal. They are currently available in sizes 5m x 5m or 7m x 7m with larger versions set to be released later this year. The Echidna’s are completely modular and can be joined together to accommodate even the biggest spaces.

Event organisers at Field dayz music festival in Sydney used 6 Echidna Pods side by side to create the biggest & most colourful bar ever seen at a music festival in Australia.

Employment Opportunities:

Our current Melbourne tent installers, Phil Moore & Matthew Smith will soon be packing their bags to go travelling through Asia, before heading home to the UK.

Following an exciting year of events, development and innovation, all of us here at Bedouin Freeform Tents would like to introduce you to our primary team members and highlight some of our achievements and event options.

First off - Lets meet the Team

Sydney:

Stuart Johnstone, Company Director. Stuart is the mastermind behind the Bedouin Freeform Tents brand. Stuart started the company in 2005 and has worked tirelessly to create new & innovative products which have seen the company grow from strength to strength. His unique Bedouinflex™ fabric, and its incredible versatility, not to mention the exciting range of colours, is one of the key factors in making our products stand out from the crowd.

Rochana Perri, Sydney Branch Manager Rochana has been with Bedouin now for nearly a year. Rochana is studying for her Events Management Diploma at TAFE and has worked in the events and entertainment industry for most of her adult life. She’s an excellent communicator and works very hard with her customers to ensure that everything is taken care of.

Antony Corkin, Chief Installer Antony joined us back in November 2006. Since then he has been responsible for erecting our tents all over Australia and is now our most experienced installer. It seems that there’s nothing Antony can’t do with a Bedouin Freeform Tent.

Penny De Beer, IT Web Design & new Product Development Penny is not only co-owner with her Husband, Stuart Johnstone, but she is the creative genius behind our exciting and interactive website. With an extensive IT background, Penny maintains all of our IT needs in both Sydney & Melbourne. Penny has also been a driving force behind some of our exciting new products and is always working with Stuart to turn their innovative visions into real products, so we can offer our clients the very newest solutions for their events.

Melbourne:

Nat Flint, Melbourne Branch Manager Nat joined us in November 2006 in her home town of Sydney, but when the opportunity arose to move to Melbourne last year, Nat and her family packed their bags and took up the challenge of opening what we hope will be the first of many interstate offices. After a couple of temporary works spaces, Nat is now excited to be finding her feet in our brand new (permanent) location at Bundoora’s University Hill complex.

Stuart Murphy, Installer Stuart joined Nat as her installer in December 2007. A true Melbourne boy, Stuart is always working hard installing our tents around Melbourne and getting ready to take over the reins in June / July when Nat has a little break for the birth of her second child.

Tents and Marquees

During 2007 we helped turn many corporate and private events into something truly memorable with our unique Freeform tents and decor. Vodafone has been a valued client of ours for a couple of years and we were happy to assist them with their events and Music Festivals again in 2007. We’ve also been lucky to work closely with such esteemed clients as Nokia, Virgin mobile and Optus, to name just a few – Optus discovered how fun and exciting the range of colours could look at their Annual awards events in Melbourne and Sydney. We really don’t mean to drop names but we’ve loved working with these and all the other fantastic companies we’ve been privileged enough to have the chance to assist in the last year. These companies, like many other forward thinking companies opted to steer away from using traditional white marquees and in doing so stood out from the crowd and were able to maximise the impact of their events and promotions on their customers, staff and the public.

Also clients who purchase their very own Bedouin Freeform Tent can opt to brand them. A Bedouin freeform stretch tent is the ultimate branded event solution, providing our clients with a distinctive and high impact outdoor advertising vehicle with the unique benefit of giving them a funky, flexible and easy to install outdoor cover for all of their future events. Another interesting tent development in the last 12 months was the introduction of our first 20m x 30m tent. This is the largest tent in our rental stock and will allow us to cater to standing events for more than 1800 people in a single tent. Tents can still be joined together but a single “enormous” tent provides a more dramatic and exciting event space. Circus Entertainment in Melbourne was our very first customer to use this new tent for their Climate08 Music Festival in Melbourne at Birrarung Marr in March this year. The development of these larger tents and our new extendable truss king poles has meant that we can continue to scale up our freeform tents and we will be adding even larger tents and event solutions to our range in the future.

Echidna Pods

Taking a step back from the tents, but a leap forward in innovation, we now also offer other structures for rental and purchase. First up is the new Stretchee Echidna Pod. This is a freestanding, clear span structure available in many colours and one hundred percent waterproof. Added options include lining, fully integrated flooring, door options, and of course, your very own corporate branding. For indoor or outdoor use, be one of the first in the world to use this completely unique product.

Inflatable’s and Lighting

Our new BUTO - Blow Up The Office inflatable’s are a lightweight room system that packs down conveniently into a bag. While not restricted to being just an office, BUTO’s can be used to transform any indoor or outdoor area into an funky room or creative event space. Ideal for exhibitions, office chill out space, sales pitches or a breakout meeting area. BUTO is available for sale and hire and can be used as either a temporary fixture or permanently installed.. We can brand them or custom make them in any colour or size to suit. Combine them with projectors or lights and you’ve got one of the funkiest and fun event products we’ve ever come up with.
